The enactment of the NHAct (2014) necessitated the decentralization of health insurance operations making it necessary for states to set up their Agencies. Therefore in 2013, the Benue State EXCO approved that a Health Insurance Scheme be introduced to the public sector workers in the State. In 2018, realizing the importance of health insurance scheme to her workforce and other residents, the Benue State House of Assembly passed into law the Bill to establish the BENUE STATE HEALTH MANAGEMENT AGENCY and instituted BENUE STATE HEALTH INSURANCE SCHEME (BNSHIS) for all residents of the state and for purposes connected therewith. His Excellency signed the bill into law on 18th October 2018 The Scheme is mandatory and applies to all residents of the State except those who have proof of contributing to, and covered by NHIS.
