ABOUT BNSHIA

Benue State Health Insurance Agency is a department of the Benue state government which is saddled with the responsibility to increase the wellbeing of the people living in the state by subsidizing healthcare and ensuring wider, quality and easy access to healthcare. In 2013, Benue State Executive Council approved that a Health Insurance Scheme be introduced to the public sector workers in the state. In addition, the National Health Act 2014 (NHIS) gave birth to Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) comprising of at least 1% Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF) of the Federal Government. This was to ensure the decentralization of health insurance operations making it necessary for states to set up their Health Insurance Schemes. In 2018, realizing the importance of health insurance scheme to her workforce and other residents of the State. and leveraging on the BHCPF, the Benue State House of Assembly (BNSHOA) passed into law, on 18th October 2018 the Bill to establish the BENUE STATE HEALTH INSURANCE MANAGEMENT AGENCY and institute BENUE STATE HEALTH INSURANCE SCHEME (BNSHIS) for all residents of the state and for the purposes connected therewith (as amended).
