Ortom Directs Deduction For Health Insurance Scheme
Governor Samuel Ortom has directed the immediate commencement of 5% deduction of the salary of Civil servants and 10% State contribution to be remitted to Benue State Health Insurance Agency (BNSHIA) and also, approved the commencement of the enrollment of Public Servants in the State on the State Health Insurance Scheme. The Governor who was represented by Chief Mrs. Veronica Onyeke, the Head of Service Benue State gave the directive today, at the Sensitization Meeting with Organized Labour in Benue State that was Organized by Benue State Health Insurance Agency ongoing at (Tor-Tiv Hall) Benue Hotels, Makurdi. While making his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for Health and Human Services Benue State Dr Joseph Ngbea appreciated His Excellency, Gov. Samuel Ortom for signing the Act establishing the State Health Insurance Agency into law and the provision of 100M (One Hundred Million Naira) only as counterpart fund, for year 2020 as the process of establishing the Equity Fund as required.
On his part, the Representative of Chairman of Benue State Labour Congress Mrs. Akpagher Esther, commended the Agency for her commitment in ensuring that Benue workers access the affordable Healthcare services.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary BNSHIA, Dr. Nyiyongo Korve enumerated the benefits of the Health Insurance Agency in Benue and further appreciated Gov.Ortom for giving his seal of authority and financial backing to ensure that the Scheme commence in the state. On his part, the Representative of Chairman of Benue State Labour Congress Mrs. Akpagher Esther, commended the Agency for her commitment in ensuring that Benue workers access the affordable Healthcare services but appealed to the Agency to work with the Union in the implementation of the directives. BNSHIA is an agency responsible for promoting, regulating, supervising and ensuring the effective administration of the Benue State Health Insurance Scheme (BNSHIS), established by law number 8 of the Benue State House of Assembly. The law was signed into effect by his Excellency, the Executive Governor of Benue State, Dr. Samuel Ortom on the 18th of October, 2018.
The vision of the Agency is to build a reliable, strong and dynamic BNSHIA that is totally committed and focus to securing an unlimited coverage and easy access to affordable healthcare; with the sole aim of improving the health status of the Benue State workflow in particular and that of the Benue State resident in General. Others present includes stakeholders in the Health sector, Labour Union in the State and other invited participants.
